The Hon Bob McMullan MP (Parliamentary Secretary for international Development Assistance) spoke on AusAID’s ongoing commitment to fight the three pandemics in the pacific, and Dr Michel Kazatchkine (Executive Director, The Global Fund) outlined how the Global Fund has succeeded in funding effective country based responses to the pandemics in the Pacific and elsewhere.

Other distinguished guests included:

  • Mr Frank Lowy AC
  • Mr Allan Gyngell (Executive Director, Lowy Institute)
  • Ambassador Louis-Charles Viossat (French AIDS Ambassador)
  • Hon Sir Terepai Maoate KBE (Deputy Prime Minister, Cook Islands)
  • Hon Nelson Martins (Minister for Health, Timor Leste)
  • Members of Pacific Friends

At the launch Mr Matthew Mitcham OAM (Olympic Gold Medalist) was appointed Pacific Friends’ Youth Ambassador, a position which he hopes will help bring support and publicity to the plight of affected communities throughout the Pacific. The launch was made possible by the generous support of AusAID and Gadens Lawyers.
